Reusing Clothes

Do you have a little sibling or cousin? If you do please pass some clothes down. Clothes that are thrown away take up 4.5% of landfill space. People throw away about 68 pounds of clothes every year. If your clothes get in the landfill it can hurt the earth, because clothes take a long time to decompose. Things like cotton t-shirts take 1-5 months to decompose but nylon clothes take 30-40 years! Leather shoes take 25-40 years. Did you know that 14.3 million tons of textiles were used in 2000? But only 15.7% was recycled. So why it is important to recycle clothes?
Why is it bad to throw away clothes? Well I will tell you why.  It takes a lot materials and resources to make clothes. Thrown away clothes take up space in the landfill. You can save materials by reusing clothes. Goodwill and charities helped 261,000 people get jobs. When you donate clothes to Goodwill, it gives the money to charities. It is good to tell you what it does to the earth, but it is not good enough. You can do more to the earth, like…
Do you want to help? If the answer is yes, listen to these examples. Even if clothes are ripped or stained you can use them for cleaning cloths. You could sew a pillow or dye them. Use fabric markers to cover up the stains. Instead of buying all new clothes, use hand-me-downs or go to places that have recycled clothes. You can share clothes that are not used a lot. Now, you can design them, but if you don’t want to design them, you might want to stay and listen.
Do you like the earth? Of course, I do. If you do, you might think this is good. I have a little sister and when I grow out of clothes I give them to her. I get some of my clothes at a Goodwill Store. I ask my friends to give some of their clothes to my sister. When my sister outgrows her clothes, she give them to some of our little friends. When I don’t want toys anymore, I sell them at a yardsale. Some things that I said might encourage you to reuse clothes.

If you want to find ways to help out, listen to me. If you buy a lot of clothes, make sure you wear them all. People just don’t think buying new clothes all the time is bad for the earth. I should not throw away clothes. Think about how the earth will turn out if you buy so much clothes. Please help out so in the future we will have enough resources for everyone.  J
