End of the Year Blog Entry

I will remember most about 4th grade is Mrs. Gerard because she is so nice. I liked all the books we read in read aloud.  I loved the field trips that we took I especially liked the old York field trip. I also liked the morning announcements because we got to say them.  Another field trip that I liked was when we went to the State House.

I am proud of the wax museum because we did a lot of work on the posters.  I liked how the buttons worked.  I am also proud of the artwork that we did in art.  I like it that our school has an art show.  I liked the poetry books.

For middle school, I am looking forward to the Bagel walk/run. I think it will be fun. I also think Field Day will be fun. I might like Bike Safety Day too.  I think the middle school field trips will be exciting. It looks like you make fun things in art.

rap up

This famous New Hampshire people project was hard when we had to write hamburger paragraphs.  I really liked when we did our Wax Museum.  I will remember most about the project that Jenny Thompson is the best New Hampshire Olympic swimmer ever.  I am excited for the whole unit to come into action.

Jenny Thompson

Jenny Thompson: Olympic Swimmer
By Josie
DO YOU WANT TO BE A SWIMMER? IF YOU DO YOU SHOULD LEARN ABOUT THE FAMOUS Jenny Thompson. She was born on February 26 1973 in Danvers Massachusetts. Jenny had 3 older brothers and her mother’s name was Magrid. She only had a mother not a father. Jenny began swimming at age 7 and joined the YMCA in Massachusetts. Jenny kept swimming and became the swimmer of the year in college. Have you ever wondered how she started her career? Well…she was young. When she was twenty, she started swimming in the World Championships. She is known for having passion when swimming. Jenny is a competitive person. She is married to Daniel Cumpelik. You learned about her a little, but you haven’t learned all of it until you’ve learned why she is famous. At a young age Jenny Thompson was swimming and representing our country in the Olympics. At age 14, she was swimming with other countries. She was the youngest swimmer at the 1992 Olympics. She swam the butterfly and the freestyle. She went to four Olympics – 1992, 1996, 2000, and 2004. Jenny was an Olympic swimming champion. Why is she so famous? I will tell you. She won more medals than any other US athlete. She held the world record in the 50meter and 100meter freestyle. She got a scholarship to Stanford University in California. Now, she is a Doctor at Maine Medical Center. This is amazing, but do you want to know what awards she got? I heard you say that you wanted to know what awards jenny got. She was the best collage female swimmer. Jenny has won 12 Olympic medals between 1992-2004 (8 gold 3 silver and 1 bronze.) isn’t she a good swimmer I think that it is cool that she got so many awards. What does jenny have to do with N.H? She moved to Dover NH at age 13. Well now you know she has some connections to Dover, N.H. “You want to know more don’t you?” well this is some information you don’t want to miss. Jenny volunteered for Swim across America. Her mom is a single parent. Jenny broke her arm at a pool party. When she was a kid she loved the super hero Wonder Woman. We are still talking about Jenny Thompson today. Well Jenny was strong and really confident and she won more medals than any other US athlete in the Olympics.

Reusing Clothes

Do you have a little sibling or cousin? If you do please pass some clothes down. Clothes that are thrown away take up 4.5% of landfill space. People throw away about 68 pounds of clothes every year. If your clothes get in the landfill it can hurt the earth, because clothes take a long time to decompose. Things like cotton t-shirts take 1-5 months to decompose but nylon clothes take 30-40 years! Leather shoes take 25-40 years. Did you know that 14.3 million tons of textiles were used in 2000? But only 15.7% was recycled. So why it is important to recycle clothes?
Why is it bad to throw away clothes? Well I will tell you why.  It takes a lot materials and resources to make clothes. Thrown away clothes take up space in the landfill. You can save materials by reusing clothes. Goodwill and charities helped 261,000 people get jobs. When you donate clothes to Goodwill, it gives the money to charities. It is good to tell you what it does to the earth, but it is not good enough. You can do more to the earth, like…
Do you want to help? If the answer is yes, listen to these examples. Even if clothes are ripped or stained you can use them for cleaning cloths. You could sew a pillow or dye them. Use fabric markers to cover up the stains. Instead of buying all new clothes, use hand-me-downs or go to places that have recycled clothes. You can share clothes that are not used a lot. Now, you can design them, but if you don’t want to design them, you might want to stay and listen.
Do you like the earth? Of course, I do. If you do, you might think this is good. I have a little sister and when I grow out of clothes I give them to her. I get some of my clothes at a Goodwill Store. I ask my friends to give some of their clothes to my sister. When my sister outgrows her clothes, she give them to some of our little friends. When I don’t want toys anymore, I sell them at a yardsale. Some things that I said might encourage you to reuse clothes.

If you want to find ways to help out, listen to me. If you buy a lot of clothes, make sure you wear them all. People just don’t think buying new clothes all the time is bad for the earth. I should not throw away clothes. Think about how the earth will turn out if you buy so much clothes. Please help out so in the future we will have enough resources for everyone.  J
